TECHNIQUE TIPS

The Beginning Dancer: The following list is provided to teach you the foundational technique that all beginning dancers should learn.  Understand that the following will take several years for them to master depending on their ability to quickly grasp the technique.  You should never allow your dancers to move to the next level of technique until they can properly execute the foundational technique.

  • Teach them how to have the proper "Body Posture"
All dancers should have what I call "Presentation" before doing any movement.  The moment they walk on the dance floor their "Presentation" should get the attention of the audience.
  • Teach them how to have proper "Body Placement":
All dancers should understand how to correctly place their limbs when doing movement.  This is why ballet is so significant.
  • Teach them how to have a "Strong Point":
All dancers should be given exercises at the barre' and when doing center floor work that will teach them to stretch their toes and foot from the ankle.
  • Teach them how to have "Hand & Finger Placement":
All dancers should know how to properly hold their hands and fingers. The hands, fingers and feet make a significant impact on movement.
  • Teach them how to "Breath":
As dancers get into movement, they will need to know how to breath in coordination with their movement.  Breathing helps dancers dance for long periods of time as well as execute difficult movement.
